Intermediate Level 3
Once a student has completed level 2 (requires two sessions in level 2), they are ready to move to level 3. Here the students will focus on sailing in a crewed (two person) boat while exploring the use of different sail controls. The instructor will teach the students more detailed aspects of sail theory, while also giving them the skills to be a well rounded sailor, ready to tackle a variety of boats.
The goal of Level 3 is to be able to sail successfully in a double handed boat around a fixed course as both skipper and crew. The student also will demonstrate more advanced sailing theory, knots, weather as well as more advanced sailing rules. Successful completion of Level 2 is required, maximum class size of 8 students. Completion of Level 3 usually requires two sessions.
Skills Developed:
-Skipper and Crew in and advanced double handed boat
-Demonstrate sail control usage
-Efficiently sail around a variety of fixed courses
-Demonstrate knowledge of basic racing rules of sailing
-Demonstrate knowledge of basic sail theory
Two-week sessions (M-F, 9 a.m – 4 p.m):
Level 3.A: June 13 – June 23
Level 3.B: June 27 – July 8 (No Classes July 4th)
$450.00 per session*
(lunch to be provided by parents and is supervised by instructors)
*Subtract $100 per session per child for BYSC members.
