Completed Level 1?  Have a bit of sailing experience? Can sail a straight line?

Welcome to level 2!


Level 2 focuses on safety and basic sailing skills, such as sailing around a fixed course, telling where the wind is coming from, how to upright a boat, all while learning to sail solo in an Optimist (the world’s most popular dinghy).


Curriculum includes upwind and downwind sailing, points of sail, wind direction, knots as well as more advanced safety knowledge.  Level 2 focuses on developing a sailor who can sail around a fixed course comfortably by himself or herself.  A maximum of 8 students per session, completion of level 1 required.  Successful completion of Level 2 usually requires a student to have completed two sessions.


Skills Developed:

  1. -Rigging

  2. -Advanced Safety (self rescue, weather awareness, etc)

  3. -Sailing Upwind and Downwind single handed

  4. -Basic Sail Theory

  5. -Advanced Boat Handling Skills (docking / mooring / control position)


Two-week sessions (M-F, 9 a.m – 4 p.m):

Level 2.A: June 13 – June 23

Level 2.B: June 27 – July 8 (No Classes July 4th)


$450 per session*

(lunch to be provided by parents and is supervised by instructors)


*Subtract $100 per session per child for BYSC members.
